(Somalia)(Boyah Farah was born in Somalia in the midst of a terrible civil war. At age twelve he escaped from Somalia by walking to Kenya. Ultimately found his way to the United States where he has taught writing at Bunker Hill College in Boston while writing about his own experiences growing up with violence.
Boyah now wants to go home to Somalia, to Garowe where some of his family still live. He plans to open a Community Learning Center for Garowe, with a free digital library containing thousands of books and videos and courses. He believes that by providing everyone in Garowe meaningful opportunities for learning what they want and need to know and acquiring the skills they want to develop, he can bring peace to that part of Somalia and demonstrate that, with learning that is open to all, peace can come to every place.
